MG Siegler at TechCrunch says it's thinner than the iPhone 5, which if you've used it, you know is super duper thin.
Here are three takes on its size.
Joshua Topolsky of The Verge thought the device was almost too thin:
Though the iPad mini sports a slightly larger display than other devices in this class, its profile feels extremely lean. Sometimes?too?lean. The device weighs just 0.68 pounds, and it's only 0.28 inches thick (noticeably thinner than the Nexus 7's 0.41 inches or Fire HD's 0.4 inches). I actually had a little trouble holding onto the device when I wasn't using the Smart Cover due to the back being as smooth as it is, and the frame being so thin.
Walt Mossberg from AllThingsD, thought that Apple had done an excellent job of shrinking the device down:
In shrinking the iconic iPad, Apple has pulled off an impressive feat. It has managed to create a tablet that?s notably thinner and lighter than the leading small competitors with 7-inch screens, while squeezing in a significantly roomier 7.9-inch display. And it has shunned the plastic construction used in its smaller rivals to retain the iPad?s sturdier aluminum and glass body.
MG Siegler of TechCrunch says the iPad mini is thinner than the iPhone 5:
The first thing you?ll notice is how light the iPad mini is. It?s similar to the effect when holding?an iPhone 5?for the first time, though not quite as jarring. At the same time, the iPad mini is far less than half the weight of a full-sized iPad (0.68 pounds vs. 1.5 pounds), so the difference is very noticeable. The iPad mini is not quite as light as a Kindle, though it?s not far from that weight. And it?s lighter than a Nexus 7.
The next thing you?ll notice is how thin the iPad mini is. When you hold it, it almost feels like you?re just holding a sheet of glass. Amazingly, it?s thinner than the iPhone 5. Yes, you read that correctly.
