Advancing student and alumni career planning and development, a significant retention and student success tool, is the critical role of this position, and includes the following responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for all aspects of career and professional development services for DSC students, recent graduates, and alumni.
- Engage in on-going planning, assessment, and evaluation to ensure the continual improvement and provision of innovative and effective programs and services that meet the changing needs of students, alumni, and employers.
- Direct, administrate, and market the DSC Career Center.
- Develop strategies to ensure DSC is a recruitment destination for local, regional, and national employers.
- Increase DSC's visibility and relationships with in the business, education, government, and nonprofit communities for the purpose of developing strategic partnerships.
- Develop a career counseling program in consultation with College departments and divisions.
- Develop opportunities for student internships, co-ops, and full-time employment; maintain a visible presence within the College and the community.
- Create partnerships with businesses and other organizations aimed at developing educational and career opportunities for DSC students and alumni.
- Implement Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) best practices for Career Center programs.
- Master's degree, or bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years management experience in career services or human resources required.
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience in Career Services or Human Resources required.
- Possess exemplary leadership attributes and highly effective communication skills to work with employers, community members and leaders, students, faculty, staff, and administration.
- Proven ability to establish relationships with the business community.
- Demonstrated knowledge of business practices and employment needs, including experience implementing innovative partnerships.
- Demonstrated skill in creating, directing, and managing department activities that impact the institution's ability to facilitate student success during and after college. .
- Considerable knowledge of FLSA and employment laws and regulations in order to create internships, co-ops, and full-time employment opportunities for students and alumni; considerable knowledge of higher education administration, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and community leaders to serve students.
