Ohio union leader drowns at Ocracoke Island

HYDE COUNTY, N.C. ? The man who drowned Friday off Ocracoke Island was identified as a union leader from Ohio.

Seth Rosen was Vice President of District 4 for the Communication Workers of America.

Hyde County officials said emergency officials were called about 5 p.m. Friday to the north end of the island. Several agencies responded to the scene, including the sheriff's office, EMS, the National Park Service and the Ocracoke volunteer fire department.

Hyde County Officials say Rosen was swimming with his wife. She made it to shore safely.

Crews say the water was rough Friday, but a rip current warning had not been issued.
